The Saddle River Valley Lions Club recently held its 58th annual Lions Carnival in Upper Saddle River after a two-year disruption due to the Pandemic. This year in combination with the Carnival the club held its Super Spring 50/50 Raffle under the leadership of Wade Odell Wade Moving and Storage Consultant Jim Murphy, a 23 year Lions Club member and 2-time club past president. The extremely successful Spring Raffle which raised $36,000 for Lions Charities was sponsored by Wade Odell Wade who are proud Lions supporters.
In order to optimize the net proceeds of its fundraising projects the Saddle River Valley Lions Charities, Inc. maintains an active and successful event sponsorship program in which local businesses like Wade Odell Wade and individuals donate funds to help pay for the fixed costs of the events.
The Saddle River Valley Lions Club & it’s non-profit fundraising arm, Saddle River Valley Lions Charities, Inc., were chartered by Lions Clubs International in 1958 with the mission to help those in need in the communities they serve. Shortly after it’s founding the club initiated two major annual fundraising activities, the Lions Carnival and a Car Raffle which has evolved into the Super 50/50 Raffle.
Today, in it’s 64th year the club continues raising funds with it’s annual Carnival, The Super 50/50 Raffle and now in its 16th year an annual golf outing which is also currently chaired by WOW’s Jim Murphy.
During those 64 years the club has donated more that $2,595,000 to a broad spectrum of charitable organizations, the communities’ youth and local volunteer first responders. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club truly emulates the Lions Motto: “We Serve!”
In addition to fundraising the club members have donated “tens of thousands of hours of sweat equity” by giving their time to projects such as maintaining the grounds and buildings at The New Jersey Camp for Blind Children, Inc. (Camp Marcella) in Rockaway Township and building a handicapped access ramp at the former Saddle River Valley Cultural Center.
